Feature of the month.. August !

Feature of the month.. August!

Today I’m featuring a fantastic artist on Artfire, Urban Survival Gear U.S.A

Questions for the artist

Q. How did you get started in your particular craft? What drew you to it in the first place?

A. I was looking for a specific leather bracelet style which I could not find, so I decided to make it myself. I went to a local bead store and got lost there for two hours. (In a very good way) I was immediately entranced by the feel and sounds of colorful creative possibilities in the bins surrounding me. This coupled with my self- diagnosed case of Functioning Attention Deficit Disorder …. There was no turning back….. A passion was born!
Before too long, I was sourcing materials from International Suppliers and Urban Survival Gear USA was born.

Q. How do you overcome the times you are feeling uninspired?

A. I do not feel this way very often and if I do it’s a quick fix. After just a few minutes of riffling through my studio or sourcing new materials on line, I generally get re-energized with a new concept or idea.

Q. Where can we see more of your work?
A. I maintain a direct wholesale web site at www.urbansurvivalgearusa.com
In addition, I currently have shops open on Artfire, Etsy, Goodsmiths and Zibbet
Urban Survival Gear USA - can also be found in numerous Gift Shops and Specialty Retailers Nationwide

Q.  Do you have any advice for someone just starting out ?
A. Keep your passion and never… ever ….give up on your dream.
If I may….This favorite quote kind of says it all….
"Risk more than others think is safe. Care more than others think is wise. Dream more than others think is practical. Expect more than others think is possible."

Q. What’s your favorite medium to work with ?
A. I love the smell, feel and strength of leather. I also enjoy working with more affordable alternative metals.

And now for a glimpse into the artist's shop!

This week in clay table news...

This is a special addition of Clay table news!

This is a new weekly feature that will be running, letting y'all know what goes on in my day to day life, creating things, sculpting and just plain ole’ smooshing of Polymer clay, cause lets face it.. if you’ve done anything with earthen clay or Polymer clay… it’s so much fun!

Let's dive right in, shall we?

This week, I took the time to finish a few things that were on my clay table and organize a bunch of beads that were just sitting around not being used. Boy, that was a chore! And if anyone has ever had loose beads laying around, y'all know that getting them off a flat surface is like herding cattle, they just go off every which way but where you want'em to be! LOL

But in the end, this gal won! I was able to get quite a bit done, and still have time left over to smoosh some clay!

I had seen Super Sculpey Firm, ya know, that gray colored Polymer clay? Well, lemme tell ya, I love it! I finally purchased a box the other day and dug right in. Many of y'all may have already been using this type of Polymer clay, but with it being my first time, I wasn't too sure what to expect. It's so easy to sculpt with and it keeps the shape, not to mention it holds the tiniest details! It's my new favorite clay when it comes to sculpting faces, hands and little tootsies :-)

That’s I guess that's all I have this week.. it's been slow, since I've not been feeling that great lately. So, I'll catch y'all next week with another Clay Table News. Be sure to stop in next week, where you can view the newest items I have listed in my shop !

Oh, before I forget.. with the kiddo's going back to school, I'm having a 2 week long Back to School sale in my Artfire shop, it's the link just above. It will run from August 27, 2012 thru September 10, 2012

You see.. my son is in the JROTC and I'm the newly elected president of a not-for profit organization called JROTC Parent Support Group. We raise money to help cover sporting events, Military Ball and JROTC scholarships.

So, I will donate 100% of the profit made from sales, to the JROTC Parent Support Group!
I sure hope y'all can help out by purchasing some fantastically fun and whimsical items from my shop. We also welcome custom orders !

Have a wonderful day and thank you for stopping to say hello!

Hi y'all !

Hello and welcome!

Let me fill y'all in on what's been going on with me this summer. I have been very busy, getting my shop enhanced, cleaning up photos, taking more photos, making more jewelry and not to mention selling more.. it's been fantastic!

Of course, I can't take all the credit for these new additions and changes! I have been reading a blog that helps one with selling their art online!

I'm tellin' y'all... this woman knows her stuff! Not only does she create fabulous digital art, collage prints and more, along with weekly printable freebies! WOW!

Who am I talking about you ask? Her name is Debbie-Anne Parent with {DAP} Digital Art and Photography !  She also has this wonderful and informative website which is called Artsy Biz Chick, right here on blogger !  I have been reading these very detailed workbooks called  ABC Workbooks, This is something that she wrote and let me just tell y'all, they are awesome!

So if you have been looking for a way to sell your craft and do it right, this is the place to start!

And in case you aren't blown away by the wonderful workbooks (which you will be) just take a look at my header, she created that for me! I was looking for something new and different and through a web search, I landed on this site Ephemera's Vintage Garden (Vintage Printables, Prints and More). Together we were able to come up with this one of a kind banner, business cards, Facebook header and Artfire banner.

So, visit Debbie-Anne, tell her hello and go read those workbooks.. they really helped me and I know they will help you too!

Along with all these changes, you will see, what I hope to be new and exciting things to read about.

Also, I'm bringing back the artist feature which will now be monthly. And, I will feature a different artist on both Artfire and Etsy! So, if you would like me to feature your shop.. message me here or you can drop me a line at cdowdle2(at)gmail(dot)com.

I'm excited to get back to "work" now that summer is over!

See y'all soon and thank you for reading my blog!

So if you spend US $5.00 on your first purchase and US $20.00 on your next, you will receive one Cobalt Moon.

First item up is:

A ham and cheese with mayo on Baguette, Polymer clay earrings.

One can't go wrong when choosing a nice thick baguette bread, hot out of the oven. And when it comes to lunch or dinner, this is sure to make your mouth water! This yummy thinly sliced ham and American cheese sandwich with mayo, lettuce and onion is a crowd favorite.

The tiny sub sandwich earrings were hand sculpted by me from Polymer clay, right down the crumb details. That's right.. no molds were used to create these tasty treats.

This is the matching necklace. Listed here .

Not yet listed in the shop, but as a bonus, I thought I would share my latest fun necklace. This is the Polymer clay version of that photo we've all seen. The pregnant belly showing the baby's foot poking through.

This necklace was hand sculpted over an aluminum core, so the entire necklace weighs only ounces.
With a dual functioning "necklace" made from plastic coordinating beads, is the hook for your necklace. This is sure to start a conversation or two when you wear it!

The dress is made of a beautiful Fimo clay called Peppermint (which is a lot like Turquoise) and a flowing little light brown bow at the Empire Waist line.

Tune in next Tuesday when I feature another item just listed in my shop.

Thank you for stopping in to visit. I would love to hear your comments or just stop in to say hello. I always follow back!

This week in clay table news...

This week in clay table news…

This is a new weekly feature that will be running, letting y'all know what goes on in my day to day life, creating things, sculpting and just plain ole’ smooshing of Polymer clay, cause lets face it.. if you’ve done anything with earthen clay or Polymer clay… it’s so much fun! :-)

Let's dive right in, shall we?

I had been feeling a bit.. cramped in the space I've created for myself, so over the Summer, I took everything out of the clay room and started over. I wish I had thought of a before photo, but you can view the after photos here on my previous blog post. I even started to take a look at my Facebook page, taking new photos of the items I have for sale in my Artfire shop, just a general "clean-up" of my creative outlet!

It started with the face lift of my jewelry logo and shop sign, I found an amazingly talented woman who does this for a living! Debbie-Anne Parent with Ephmera's Vintage Garden (Vintage Printables Prints and More). For those of you that were following my previous blog Purple Froggie's Clay & Stuff, I did an artist feature on Mrs. Parent. I was so pleased, not only with the level of service I received (cause I was kind of picky) but her attention to detail and the patience she had with me. We came up with a one of a kind banner that you see on this blog and everything else that ties into my jewelry business!

So, now.. with all that behind me, I can get back to claying!

That's all we have for this week, stop in tomorrow where you can view the newest items I've listed in my shop!

And coming up on August 28th, you can see the first of yet another change in the line-up. Yeppers, I'm bringing back the featured artist.. but it's a bit different.. so stay tuned to find out more!

Have a wonderful day and thank you for stopping to say hello!
